In Pakistan and India, many Sunnis, Hindus and Christians also join Shia Islamic mourning processions and congregations during Moharram.

Ashura mourning globalized

The main Ashura Day azadari is held in Karbala, Iraq where the martyrs of Karbala have been laid to rest.

Shia mourners and like-minded Sunnis and other lovers of Imam Hussain (PBUH) from all over the world go to the holy shrine of Imam Hussain-led Martyrs of Karbala in Iraq’s city Karbala.

Iran, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Kashmir also witness huge mourning gatherings on Ashura.

Despite restrictions, Shia Muslims in Shia majority Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other GCC countries, also observe azadari.

Shia Muslims in United States, Canada, Australia and many European countries, mainly UK and Africa also observe Ashura azadari.

Hence, sacred mourning called azadari has been globalized. It attracts oppressed humanity around the world.

Imam Hussain a role model and source of inspiration

For them, Imam Hussain and his team in Karbala have become role model and source of inspiration in the fight against forces of tyranny and terrorism.

According to Sunni historians and scholars Muavia son of Abu Sufyan had founded despotic monarchy and appointed his son Yazid as his successor.

During the Yazid-led Umayyad dynastic tyrant regime, their army massacred Imam Hussain, his sons, brothers, nephews and companions.

But, Martyrs of Karbala fought a defensive battle and set a precedent for the future generations to call a spade a spade and don’t bow to tyranny and terrorism.

Due to that unwavering and uncompromising struggle against Umayyad tyranny, Iraq turned into the land of resistance and struggle.

That toppled the tyrant regime’s set in Kufa and finally the Muavia-founded tyrant monarchy fell within less than three years after battle of Karbala.

Although Marwan-led tyranny replaced Muavia family rule but they had to face incessant resistance and struggle.

Finally, Abbasid regime replaced Umayyad-Marwan family rule.

However, agent of change or revolutionary people among Muslims claim to inherit legacy of Martyrs of Karbala and they never tolerate oppression even to date.

Oppressed humanity adore Imam Hussain

Oppressed humanity always expresses their reverence and adoration for Imam Hussain son of Imam Ali and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

Even Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the founder of modern Indian nation has made it public that Imam Hussain remained source of inspiration for him.

Incidentally, his rival Mohammad Ali Jinnah, father of Pakistani nation was himself a Shia Muslim. But both of them never hid their reverence and adoration for Imam Hussain.

That is why subcontinent’s Hindus and even Christians revere and adore Imam Hussain and the team Hussaini of battle of Karbala.

Shia Islam believes in just peace and liberation of oppressed humanity. Shia Muslims love humanity because of ancestral lineage of mankind as per Islamic theory of evolution in which Hazrat Adam is common father of humanity.

Shia Islam revere Imam Hussain as the true heir of Hazrat Adam.
