The Afghan interior ministry, in a statement on Tuesday, announced that at least 20 militants were killed and several other were injured in the army’s operations across the country in the last 24 hours.
The statement said that the army’s operations were conducted in Kunduz, Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Logar, Nangarhar and Oruzgan provinces in past 24 hours.
The operations were jointly carried out by Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and personnel from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s intelligence agency – where four more insurgents were also wounded and two detained.
Security forces also confiscated ammunition during these operations but a specific number of it is not mentioned in the statement released to the media.
Afghan security forces have launched large-scale independent operations against militants across the country. National security forces started conducting independent operations after taking full responsibility from NATO forces at the beginning of this year.
The Afghan defense ministry claims to have killed thousands of militants during these operations.
