Putrajaya Mulls Outlawing Quranic Verses Abuse by Politicians

minister ahmedPutrajaya might consider banning politicians from abusing Quranic verses in their rallies, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
According to the minister, some politicians were using Quranic verses to incite hate among Muslims, which he said is contrary to the teachings in the Islamic holy book.
“The Quran is used to do good,” Zahid told reporters at the Ministry of Home Affairs here.
“When Quran is being interpreted for fighting each other, maybe one day we need to add [a ban] in the Act,” he said, referring to the Printing of Quranic Text Act 1986.
However, he did not disclose how such a law would be enforced or what exactly constitutes abuse.
Zahid was supporting Perak mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria, who urged Putrajaya to do so in the same press conference earlier.
“Quran had never asked anybody to fight,” said the mufti.
