Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the UN arms embargo against Iran will be lifted as of Sunday as will make Tehran able to buy or sell weapons.
“On the next Sunday, we will announce this good news to the nation that 10 years of the cruel arms embargo is removed,” Rouhani said while addressing a cabinet session on Wednesday.
“We have fought with America over this issue for four years. It was four years that America was doing everything to not let October 18 happen but this day will come,” he said, adding that this is because of the ‘resistance of the people’ and efforts of Iranian officials and diplomats.
Those who ask about the achievements of the JCPOA should note that this arms removal is one the deal’s achievements, he said. “It [JCPOA] lifted the arms embargo. As of Sunday, we are able to sell our weapon to everybody we wish and buy weapons from everybody we wish.”
According to the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the arms embargo against Iran will be lifted on Sunday, October 18, at GMT+3:30. Washington’s efforts to extend the embargo have been futile as the Council opposed its plan in September.
Rouhani further referred to the destructive actions of the White House rulers in the region and said, “Look what they did to Afghanistan and what is happening in the country and who is in control of its west and east. Look what those who claimed to destroy ISIS did. What success in foreign policy has the US government achieved over the past four years?” reported his press service.
Stating that the White House rulers have failed in all cases, the president said, “They have achieved no success except to speak with a forceful and rude tone that even a director of a small group does not use that tone and words. Of course, this shows that the resistance and power of the Iranian nation has made them very angry and brought them to their knees.”
Rouhani went on to emphasise that the government is not just chanting slogans, referring to some of the country’s achievements and said, “Our agricultural sector has taken a step forward and this year the amount of wheat purchased has increased by 7% compared to last year.”
“The country’s production in the past month compared to the same period last year has grown by 11 percent and sales by 14 percent, and this figure has grown over the past six months in the production sector in the field of industry 6.4 percent and 8 percent in sales,” said Rouhani.
The President also stated that the increase in non-oil exports in the last month compared to August was 25% and said, “The upward trend of non-oil exports has begun, and in the second half of the year, our economic situation will improve.”
Rouhani referred to the amount of investment demand in the country and stated, “Investment demand in the country in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year has increased by 37 percent.”
Emphasising that the government will continue its efforts to increase production in the year of Surge in Production, the president said, “Our success will increase when we all join hands and help each other.”
Rouhani also referred to the intensification of some coronavirus-related restrictions in recent days and added, “Increasing these restrictions is only for the health of the people and we do not want anyone to be bothered, and these restrictions are among the measures that are necessary for public health.”
