The 1988 pogrom remains one living example to date. Since August 05, 1988 to September 30, 1988, violent extremists of Saudi-funded outfits had attacked Shia Islamic congregations and processions.

Historians note it as state-sponsored chauvinistic thuggery and terrorism which occurred during tenure of Martial Law dictator General Zia-led regime and his remnants.

Many Shia Muslims embraced martyrdom in those targeted attacks and firing.

On September 30, 1988, the fanatics, thugs and their facilitators made straight fire at mourning procession that left at least 10 Shia mourners martyred and dozens injured.
