Member of Punjab Assembly Syeda Zahra Naqvi and other leaders of her Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) held meetings with Punjab Ministers for Law and Local Government (LG) and discussed the issue of police attack on male and female Shia Muslim azadars of Fort Abbas at a Majlis-e-Aza (mourning congregation), false cases against them and their arrest.
The delegation apprised Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat and LG Minister Abdul Aleem Khan of the facts regarding mourning congregation (Majlis-e-Aza) of Shia woman that was being held inside their house. They said that ASI Arshad Ali-led team of Fort Abbas Police of district Bahawal Nagar on the order of DSP Tahir Majeed and SHO Mohammad Aslam Dodi stormed into the house and ransacked everything and took sound system away.
The said police team was abetted by the locals and they thrashed and baton-charged women also. The host of the Majlis, Sajjad Shah and his sons had earlier told the police if they had any objection to use of loud speaker, the former would switch off that. The SHO had agreed to that but within some time he returned and told that DPO Ammara Athar had issued orders for action and began attack on the Majlis.
The Elite Force and local sectarian extremists, terrorists and hooligans also joined the local police action. Their brutal action was illegal, immoral and unjustifiable.
The ministers assured to probe the matter through a committee and asserted that justice would be done and no injustice and excess would be tolerated.
MWM’s Nasir Shirazi, Asad Abbas Naqvi and Waqarul Hasnain Naqvi were also present.
