Saudi students in Abha demand better education

Students held the demonstration on their college campus on Sunday.
Demonstrators also called for an end to mistreatment by teachers and the morality police.
The Sunday protest was held a couple of days after Saudi students staged a demonstration in Abha on March 11 to express solidarity with female students beaten by the security personnel of King Khalid University.
On March 7, Saudi activists said a group of female students from King Khalid University were beaten by security personnel during a demonstration held to express anger about discrimination and mistreatment.
Demonstrators on Sunday also expressed solidarity with the female protesters beaten on March 7.
The demonstration for better education and learning environment in Abha was organized at a time when Saudi protesters have been holding demonstrations on an almost regular basis in the oil-rich Eastern Province, mainly in the Qatif region and the town of Awamiyah, calling for the release of all political prisoners, freedom of expression and assembly, and an end to widespread discrimination.
Demonstrations in Eastern Province began in February 2011 and they turned into protest rallies against the Al Saud regime, especially since November 2011, when Saudi security forces killed five protesters and injured many others in Eastern Province.
