The Afghan security forces retook control of five police posts in Jalrez, one of the most unsafe districts in Central Maidan Wardak, a day after the Taliban insurgents seized the checkpoints in the district.
Police Chief of Wardak Khalilullah Andrabi confirmed that still four other security post are under control of the Taliban, but he said fighting is underway with the insurgents to secure back the control of the rest of posts, Tolonews reported.
“Additional troops have been deployed to the area to support the local forces,” Andrabi said. “So far, 30 insurgents have been killed and 48 others wounded.”
The fighting broke out late Thursday after a number of insurgents stormed the district, reportedly killing 18 police in Jalrez.
