Forty countries will take part in the Quran Recital Contest (MTQ) due to be held in South Sumatra, Indonesia, in September this year, Indonesian news agency ANTARA reported.
Ahmad Najib of the People’s Welfare Office said Friday confirmation of the countries’ participation was received during a meeting with the Religious Affairs Ministry in Jakarta recently.
The MTQ organizing committee has invited a number of countries including Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and South Africa.
The event will feature the memorization of Quran’s 30th, 20th and 10th Juzes (sections) and recital contests.
Ahmad said the province is ready to host the event as all supporting facilities are already in place.
