A political commentator has accused Bahrain’s ruling Al Khalifa regime of practicing “fascist†and “sectarian†policies against the people, Press TV reports.
Saab Shaath, an author and Middle East affairs expert, said in an interview with Press TV on Monday that the Al Khalifa family believes that it “owns†the Bahraini nation, considering the people as their “property.â€
He described the Manama regime’s policies as “feudalist,†“sectarian†and “fascist,†criticizing international human rights organizations for their silence aimed at covering abuses committed by the Bahraini regime.
Bahraini regime forces “are more and more involved in targeting even kids†said the commentator, stressing, “We notice not even one Western force coming out and condemning†human rights violations in Bahrain.
The analyst further argued that the Western hegemony in the Middle East depends on its “regional puppets†such as the regime in Manama, which work to serve the interests of Israel, the United States and Britain.
On Monday, Bahrain’s main opposition bloc al-Wefaq along with the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) and the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR) documented attacks by regime forces on several Shia neighborhoods in the country during the religious ceremonies commemorating Ashoura.
Ashoura marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The two rights groups said the attacks violate freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and amount to discrimination against majority Shias with the aim of increasing sectarianism in the Bahraini society.
Scores have been killed, many of them under torture while in custody, and thousands more detained since a popular uprising began in Bahrain in early 2011.
