The London-based Bahraini human rights defender, Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, is reporting that the head of Bahrain’s Jaw Prison visited the United Kingdom earlier this month.
Citing a “reliable source”, Alwadaei said in a Twitter post on Wednesday that Abdulsalam al-Arifi visited a number of detention facilities during his stay in Britain.
Jaw Prison is known for the brutal treatment of its inmates, which includes the systematic use of torture.
Detainees also claim that they routinely denied access to health care and even drinking water.
Britain has traditionally offered substantial support to Bahrain’s security apparatus, which includes the training of prison guards.
