Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli announced that the security and intelligence forces have foiled dozens of terrorist plots in different parts of the country last year.
“We didn’t have any security incident last (Iranian) year (ended on March 19) and tens of terrorist and outlawed incidents which were due to happen in the country on different occasions were defused due the security and law enforcement police forces’ vigilance and monitoring,” Rahmani Fazli said in Tehran on Monday.
He also underlined Iran’s positive role in the regional developments last year, and said the country helped the regional Muslims fight against terrorism, violence and drug trafficking.
Elsewhere, Rahmani Fazli elaborated on the situation at Iran’s Eastern borders, and said the problem in that region is not just confined to drug trafficking, but the country is also faced with smuggling, human trafficking, outlawed and terrorist activities that are supported by certain foreign states.
In relevant remarks in January, Rapporteur of the Iranian Parliament’s Presiding Board Abdolreza Mesri announced that the country’s intelligence and security forces have thwarted plots of over 10 terrorist groups in different parts of Iran.
“In today’s closed door session of the parliament, the intelligence minister (Seyed Mahmoud Alavi) presented a very comprehensive and detailed report,” Mesri told reporters in Tehran.
“Today, we are witnessing that over 10 terrorist groups are active against Iran and all of their operations have been foiled in the country,” he quoted Alavi as saying.
According to Mesri, the intelligence minister also informed the Iranian parliamentarians that certain reactionary regional states support the Takfiri groups militarily and financially, whose main goal, he said, is stirring insecurity in Iran
But, he stressed, all their plots have been defused, the terrorists have been captured and a large number of weapons have been seized from them.
Also in December, Commander of Iran’s Law Enforcement Police Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari said his forces had foiled plans by Takfiri terrorists and anti-revolutionaries to stir insecurity in the Eastern parts of the country.
“The Takfiri and anti-revolutionary groups’ moves in Eastern Iran were defused,” Ashtari said.
“There were some terrorist moves along some of our borders, which were all defused by our border guards vigilantly,” he added.
The police chief declined to reveal any further detail.
Iranian Border Guards Commander Brigadier General Qassem Rezayee said in November that his forces are fully prepared to counter any possible threat of terrorist groups.
“Iran has 8,755 kilometers common borders with 15 countries and is fully ready to confront insecurity on the borders,” Rezayee said, “No one can threat Iranians’ solidarity and unity.”
