We use sanctions as an opportunity for country’s development: Rouhani

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that all pressures and sanctions imposed by Washington are aimed at paving the ground for the US to get back to Iran’s domestic political scene, referring to the US influence on Tehran during Pahlavi era, adding that all such attempts are in vain.

“The Americans withdrew from their undertakings without any reason and imposed the harshest sanctions against the Iranian nation. They imagine that if they increase the sanctions and pressures, they can return to Iran and the Americans have no goal but returning to Tehran and take control of our people,” President Rouhani said on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Monday.

“And this is impossible to happen,” he underlined.

President Rouhani said that the Iranian nation which has resisted for years will resist again and the enemy will not attain its goal despite all its attempts.

In relevant remarks in February, President Rouhani said that the US’ unilateral sanctions against Tehran had helped his country as the pressures push the nation to work harder and replicate embargoed products and items.

“Some countries think that sanctions are a way for reducing the pace of development in a country; but, they increase motivation for us in the country, so that we can produce the part we used to import,” Rouhani said in a meeting with heads of knowledge-based companies and startups in Tehran.

The Iranian president described working towards self-sufficiency as a practical fight against imperialism and major powers, adding, “Sanctions are aimed at reducing the growth of technology in our country … but we need to use sanctions as an opportunity for growth.”

Rouhani said that countries which build walls around themselves would be destroyed from inside and would achieve no progress, pointing to Trump’s administration insistence on building physical walls along its Southern borders.
