During his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi city of Karbala, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ahmad al-Safi congratulated the Kurdish Peshmerga forces for their victory over Takfiri terrorists in the northern city of Sinjar.
The Kurdistan regional security forces had reportedly entered Sinjar from all directions to begin clearing the town of ISIL terrorists, seizing key buildings in the process.
The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani also expressed his regret in regard to Thursday’s outbreak of deadly fighting in the flashpoint town of Tuz Khormato between Kurdish security forces and Popular Mobilization Forces, who are usually united against ISIL.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Safi said the clashes which occurred in Tuz Khormato are not justified in any way and called on wise people from both sides of the conflict to stop the fighting.
“These brothers must turn their arms toward their common enemy – the ISIL terrorists because these terrorists post a challenge and a threat to our country and we must apply all our facilities to combat them,” he said.
In regard to the upcoming commemoration of Arba’in, which marks the fortieth day after Ashura His Eminence called for more cooperation and coordination between the security forces, army, federal police, volunteers, tribes and Peshmerga forces, stressing this solidarity will lead to further victories against ISIL and drive these terrorists out of all regions of Iraq and end the danger they pose to the war-torn Arab country.
