Iraq day of carnage leaves 19 martyred

19 iraq killNearly 20 people have been killed and more than 30 others wounded in a fresh wave of violence across Iraq.

Iraqi police and interior ministry officials said that at least 19 people lost their lives in separate deadly attacks on Wednesday.

Reports say gunmen killed four policemen after attacking a checkpoint in southern Baiji, north of the capital, Baghdad. Six others were also wounded in the attack.

A car bomb attack against a convoy of Iraqi parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi in Ain al-Jahish, left at least two bodyguards dead and eight others wounded. Police officials say the parliament speaker was not in the convoy at the time of the attack.

A roadside bomb explosion targeted security forces on their way to Tal Afar, west of Mosul, killing one soldier. Three others were also injured.

Unknown gunmen attacked and killed a police officer in the city of Hit, west of the capital.

In a similar incident in northern Fallujah, another police officer lost his life.

On Wednesday, ten people were killed and nine others wounded in separate instances of violence across the country.

The attacks include one which left eight workers dead when their truck was hit by a roadside bomb in Hafriyah.

Two others were also killed by unknown gunmen.

According to the United Nations, almost 1,000 people were killed and more than 2,000 were wounded in violence in Iraq in September, making it one of the deadliest months in recent years.

Iraq’s Interior Ministry has said that militants have launched an open war in Iraq and they want to push the Arab country into chaos.
