Iraqi court sentences two to death by hanging for joining Daesh

A court in Iraq has handed down death sentences to two men over their membership in the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group and involvement in acts of terror in the war-ravaged Arab country.

Abdul Sattar al-Biraqdar, spokesman for Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, said in a statement that the country’s Criminal Court in Wasit province issued the verdicts against the pair on Monday.

Biraqdar pointed out that one of the terrorists was responsible for a car bomb attack near Abbasiyah market on August 15, 2011, which left dozens of civilians dead and injured, while another was engaged in several terrorist attacks in Qaryat Taj al-Din area of the province.

He went to say that another terrorist was sentenced to life imprisonment over collaboration with the so-called Free Syrian Army.

Briaqdar said the convict used to sell unregistered pre-paid mobile phone lines, and was captured along with 350 Asiacell SIM cards, one Samsung Galaxy tablet, a motorcycle and two mobile phones.

The development came a day after pro-government voluntary fighters, commonly known by the Arabic word Hashd al-Sha’abi, carried out a surprise attack in al-Rashad town of the northern oil-rich province of Kirkuk, killing five Daesh terrorists.
