The Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani rejected any criticism regarding the role played by his country in the Syrian crisis.
“We want peace in the region even with “Israel”,” he added.
In an interview with “Deutsche Welle” German channel, al-Thani said: “I think that a political solution could be achieved in Syria only if a source of balance emerges between the two sides of the conflict.”
“We want something practical concerning this topic,” he said, accusing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of “trying to gain more time.”
He further asked: “Does the Syrian regime a political solution or it seeks to play and take more time during the presence of al-Akhdar Ibrahimi.”
Al-Thani also expressed full confidence and support to Ibrahimi’s mission, claiming that “the Syrian regime presented nothing but only wasted more time and killed a greater number of innocent people.”
Asked whether Qatar was arming the Syrian opposition, Hamad bin Jassim replied: “This is a sovereign decision, of course, and the Arab League and the Arab summit endorsed this principle.”
On the other hand, Hamad bin Jassim pointed out that his country’s goal is to “bring peace and stability in the Arab world, even with “Israel”.”
“There must be peace, and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people must be restored,” he mentioned.
