Six policemen and three civilians embraced martyrdoms in two back-to-back terror attacks in Dera Ismail Khan today (Sunday). According to Dl Khan District Police Officer (DPO) Salim Riaz, gunmen on four motorcycles opened fire on policemen at the Kotla Saidan checkpost. That attack took place approximately 7:45am on Sunday morning, martyring two policemen in the residential area.
Following the gun attack, a suicide blast took place at the hospital where the victims were shifted, the DPO said.
There, the bomber struck at the entrance to the hospital, martyring four policemen and three civilians who were visiting their relatives.
Furthermore, Inayatullah, a local forensics expert, said a female attacker set off 7 kilograms of explosives packed with nails and ball-bearings.
Moreover, he said that around 28-year-old woman came on foot and blew herself up, martyring two policemen and four civilians, and wounding 13 others. The injured also included at least eight policemen and five civilians.
About 30 others sustained injuries in the two incidents, DPO Riaz said.
Apart from it, the blast damaged the emergency room forcing its shut down. According to a hospital official the wounded were then shifted to a military hospital. However, the official spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
Meanwhile, the DPO added that according to an initial probe, the attack appeared premeditated.
