Civil award for Dr Usama who died treating COVID19 patients recommended as Gilgit Baltistan Governor has approved a summary in this regard.
Gilgit Baltistan Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon has recommended to confer civil award to Dr Usama Riaz who lost his life treating coronavirus patients.

The information department of Gilgit-Baltistan confirmed the news in a tweet.
Dr Usama Riaz became the first Pakistani doctor who died of coronavirus while protecting lives of Coronavirus-infected people.
He had contracted the deadly virus while physically handling suspected COVID-19 patients returning to Gilgit-Baltistan from overseas and other parts of the country.
Dr Riaz remained part of a 10-member team of the doctors.
The team tasked with screening patients returning from other areas.
Later he began providing services to suspected patients in isolation centers established for them in Gilgit.
Besides, the doctor played a key role in the war against coronavirus.
His colleagues said that Dr Riaz ignored his health and served the patients till late night as the patients had not got any services before.
According to officials in Gilgit, they repeated his test and again he tested positive for coronavirus.
