Ban on inter-provincial movement of Ulema and speakers is unconstitutional and illegal: Shia Ulema Council

Central Secretary General of Shia Ulema Council Pakistan Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi said “people of every religion and sect have full rights in the country to practice their beliefs hence, any restrictions on Azadaari e Syed ul Shuhada (as) will not be tolerated. Those spreading sectarianism are enemies of both Pakistan and Islam because unity is vital for the country’s security and Ummah’s success. Extremism and terrorism have nothing to do with Islam. Both Shia and Sunni Muslims celebrate Muharram together in Punjab also, like the rest of the country and participate in majaalis and processions. Bans that Punjab government and provincial bureaucracy has announced, this year, on inter-provincial movements of Ulema and speakers (zaakireen) are unconstitutional, illegal and open violation of basic human rights”.

He further said “the administration should refrain from such unconstitutional and illegal measures in the name of code of conduct that will mutilate Punjab’s peaceful situation. We have always cooperated with administration and other schools of thought in administrative issues and are still doing that but Punjab government should also sensibly fulfill its responsibilities and should refrain from imposing unnecessary restrictions, in name of security arrangements, which will create problems for people and also destroy the peaceful environment of Punjab”. These thoughts were expressed by Allama Arif Wahidi while talking to delegations of Ulema and activists that came from different areas.

He said that few extremist forces make propaganda against azadaari although everyone knows that it is not against any sect rather a protest against Yazeediat that will continue. “We will not accept any restriction upon azadaari because it is a matter of our freedom. People of every religion have complete freedom, in Pakistan, to worship according to their beliefs and no restriction upon this freedom could be tolerated because constitution of Pakistan has given this religious freedom”, he added. Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi said that leader of Millat e Jafaria Pakistan Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi has always promoted unity and we are following the same path because unity of the nation is vital for country’s stability. “Those spreading sectarianism are enemies of both Islam and Pakistan”, he said.
