SC invalidates election tribunal’s verdict in NA-89- Jhang
Shiite News: SC has invalidated election tribunal’s verdict of declaring Ahmad Ludhianvi as a victor in NA-89 of Jhang and has restored National Assembly membership of PML-N’s Sheikh Muhammad Akram. The three-member bench of court headed by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case whereas bench member Justice Qazi Faiz Essa read the verdict.
The election tribunal of Faisalabad on 9th April 2014 on a petition filed by runner-up candidate Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) had disqualified Sheikh Muhammad Akram and ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to notify Ludhianvi as elected. Sheikh Muhammad Akram had succeeded by receiving 74324 votes whereas Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Lundhianvi had received 71598 votes but election tribunal on 18th April 2014, had issued the victory notice to Ahmad Ludhianvi as the elected member of National Assmebly. Akram contested the tribunal’s verdict in SC after which SC had cancelled election tribunal’s verdict on 22nd April 2014.
Ludhianvi in his petition had alleged that Akram was not an eligible candidate as he had not mentioned a first information report (FIR) registered against him in his nomination forms, besides the name of his father written in the papers and identity card also did not match. Sheikh Muhammad Akram’s lawyer told the court that there was a mistake in NIC which had been rectified.
