Key MQM leaders flee Karachi as Kamal gets stronger
Shiite News: Many key leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement have fled Karachi for foreign countries after the return of former city mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani, it emerged on Tuesday.
According to reports, Sindh Assembly opposition leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan has left for Dubai, Khushbakht Shujaat is leaving for America, Faisal Sabzwari has also taken two months off from the party affairs and left for America.
MPA Iritza Farooqi has left for London and Rabita Committee member Haider Abbas Riziv is in Canada these days.
One wonders if these leaders are under pressure, or if this is a new plan of action approved by the party.
MQM spokesperson told Geo News that the party leaders have left for ‘personal reasons’.
On Monday dissident MQM leader Raza Haroon joined former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal’s breakaway party after arriving from Dubai following a prolonged absence from the local political scene.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Kamal, Anees Qaimkhani, and Dr Sagheer Ahmed at the party’s DHA residence, Haroon said that the MQM was no longer following the ideology for which he had joined the party.
“When the MQM was formed, it was against feudalism, it was for the middle class rights. All that ideology is lost somewhere,” he said.
“I joined the MQM because I believed in an ideology. That ideology is no more. The middle class members have now become upper class,” he said.
