Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has become Pakistan’s first Shia party whose candidate has been elected Member of Provincial Assembly Balochistan under Shia identity.
Syed Mohammad Raza was contesting election from the PB-2 Quetta-II and he has secured 7320 votes. His closest rival was Abdul Khaliq Hazara who got 5,769 votes. Abdul Khaliq Hazara is head of Hazara Democratic Party who insists on ethnic identity instead of Shia identity of Hazara Shia Muslims.
It is an upset for all the major political parties because the MWM had entered into electoral politics three months ago and had no experience of electoral politics. Shiites of Quetta turned jubilant over his success and they are celebrating this victory.
Alamdar Road was reverberating with the slogans of Labbaik Ya Hussain (AS) on his election as MPA.
