He said a TTP splinter group and some al Qaeda elements were involved in the kidnapping of Owais Shah, who was abducted last month from Karachi and reunited with his family in Karachi today.
The DG ISPR said three terrorists were killed in the rescue operation carried out at around 2am tonight at Dera Ismail Khan-Tank road in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near Afghan border.
Asim Bajwa shared details and pictures with media persons in the briefing, showing images of killed terrorists and Owais Shah during his recovery.
“In the light of some technical evidences of a movement, our agencies carried out several operations and ambushes in different areas. ISI was leading the operations,” he elaborated.
“We were alert and prepared last night for an intelligence based operation in Tank at midnight. The troops stopped a blue four-wheel vehicle at a check-post but its driver sped away, our sniper shot the driver and ultimately the car stopped. Two terrorists came out firing on troops but they were also shot down,” Bajwa said.
“The soldiers approached the vehicle and found a burqa-clad person. It was Owais Shah who was shackled and blind folded. They wanted to shift him to Afghanistan,” Bajwa said.
Replying a question regarding the abductors, he said they are yet to be identified.
Bajwa said the kidnappers had contacted family of Owais, but did not share details of their demands.
“IBOs and combing operations are underway across the country to root out terrorism. We are committed and resolute in our efforts to fully eliminate terrorist network,” he said, urging media to play its role.
Owais Ali Shah, a lawyer himself, was abducted last month from Karachi.
Shah was last seen in a CCTV footage on June 21 shopping at a supermarket in Karachi’s Defence Housing Society, an upscale neighbourhood.
Army chief General Raheel Sharif commended intelligence and security forces for successful operation.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also congratulated Justice Sajjad Ali Shah on the recovery of his son and praised security forces.
