Back to top buttonTo safeguard mourning processions and Majalis in the holy month of Muharram,Ithe city police have devised a foolproof security plan according to which 6,000 police officials would be deployed in the entire district. City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Wasal Fakhar Sultan Raja said this while addressing a press conference at Police Lines on Thursday. He said the officials of Rapid Response Squad and Elite Force would also move along with Â every procession. He said all the processions and Majalis would be divided into three categories â€“ A, B and C. He said total 447 processions would be taken out in the district out of which 37 processions would be most sensitive, which would be kept in category â€œAâ€ and 61 would be kept in category â€œBâ€. He further said 275, out of total 1961 Majalis, would be in category â€œAâ€ and 371 would be kept in category â€œBâ€. Raja said that close circuit television (CCTV) cameras would be installed at all the points and routes of Majalis and processions, while walk through gates would also be put in at the entrance points of important Imambargahs and every devotee would be checked by metal detector.
He said the Ulema from all schools of thoughts were also appealed to request the people to remain clam during the processions and Majalis.
â€œTo review of security arrangements, I personally have visited the entire district and held meetings with Ulema to help keep the atmosphere harmonious. They have assured full cooperation,â€ CPO said.He said that special pickets would also be established in the city at various routes in the city. Parking of vehicles would be allowed 200 yards away from the areas of processions and Majalis. â€œTotally, 98 points have been declared sensitive where the police guards will perform duty round the clock. Besides, only one entry point would be used during Majalis,â€ he added.He said the Rescue-1122, bomb disposal squad, TMA, WAPDA and civil administration were also kept on red alert.However, A delegation of Balochistan Shia Conference called on Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani at Chief Minister Secretariat here on Thursday. According to a handout issued here, CM Raisani said the government needs Balochistan Shia Conference’s cooperation to avert untoward incident and maintain peace during the Ashura days of Muharram-ul-Haram.He said all religious scholars hailing from different sects should collaborate with the government to foil conspiracies of the anti-peace elements.He directed Home Department to remain in touch with the Balochistan Shia Conference regarding security arrangements around Imambargahs and on the routes of the procession
