Muharram-ul-Harram: Police identify 209 high-risk places in Karachi

quaid 19.12.2009 Special report Karachi, Pakistan (SN) Sindh police have declared 209 places in Karachi, as highly sensitive and high risk spots during the month of Muharram-ul Harrram where law and order system could be disturbed during the Ashura days. Police and law enforcement agencies are ensuring strict vigilance of all Majlis gatherings and mourning procession with held of aerial surveillance, installations of CCTV cameras, walkthrough gates and scanners in coordination swith organizers of Majalis and mouring processions. Out of the high-security risk areas in Karachi, 129 are in West Zone, 92 in East Zone and 73 in South Zone. The high placed source of Sindh police said at last year numbers of Ulema belonging to different religious organizations were gunned down in different part of the city in incident of target killings so that the chances of any terrorist attacks are much higher this year than previous one.d 1401 Majalis would be held in East Zone where 100 Majalis venues are declared most sensitive while 19 religious procession also are declared most Sensitive In West Zone, there are 108 Imam Bargahas and of them 9 Imambargahas, 16 Majalis venues and five processions are declared as most sensitive. In South Zone there are 54 Imam Bargahas of them 13 Imam Bargahas, 75 Majalis venues and 37 mourning processions are declared as the most sensitive and high risk. The source said law enforcement and intelligence agencies have prepared the list of around two thousand suspected terrorists affiliated with outlawed religious and sectarian organizations and started their strict vigilance and monitoring. The sources said that Federal Interior Ministry has also warned Sindh home department regarding the threats of terrorists during the month of the Muharram and instructed them to take extra precautionary measures. In this regard senior officers of home department, police and other law enforcement agencies, have held several meeting under the chair of Provincial Home Minster Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza with the various scholars and clerics. According to official statistics, around 45,000 Majlis and over 20,000 mourning processions are organized citywide within the first ten days of Muharram, that rely on the 27,000-strong police force aided by contingents of Pakistan Rangers for protection. There most sensitive areas are include Ancholi, Jaffer Tayyar Society, Rizvia, Drig Road, Orangi, Soldier Bazaar, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Lines Area, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, New Rizvia Scheme 33, Mohammadi Dera, and Agra Taj Colony, Orangi town.
