Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has announced support for Sheikh Waqas Akram, an anti-takfiri Sunni politician in election to National Assembly NA-115 Jhang.
MWM’s political affairs head Syed Asad Abbas Naqvi made this announcement at a joint press conference together with Sheikh Waqas Akram in Jhang.
Source in the MWM disclosed that Naqvi had been in Jhang for some days to review the changing political situation and consulted the party comrades and finally took this decision.
The decision marks a difference in the MWM’s electoral strategy because it has aligned itself with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with countrywide electoral alliance with Imran Khan-led party.
Shia vote-bank in Jhang plays decisive role in make-or-break of any electoral contestant in the constituency hence many in the electoral-fray want to woo Shia parties’ support. Sheikh Waqas Akram thanked MWM and vowed to continue joint struggle against the anti-Pakistan forces of fanaticism.
